Burkina Faso will soon launch its own e-Visa

For reasons we all know, the deadlines for this project have been extended. However, he is moving forward.

It was therefore at the end of the Council of Ministers, on Wednesday June 8, 2022, that the government spokesman, Lionel Bilgo, announced that the country would soon issue online visas to international travelers. The government wants to dematerialize these administrative procedures, starting with neighboring countries, such as Benin and Côte d’Ivoire, which have taken the plunge of the e-visa for some time now.

Why is Burkina Faso embarking on the development of the e-visa? In 2018, the government announced the launch of the Visa Security Project in Burkina Faso (PSV), in order to strengthen security within the country, thanks to better control of migratory flows, through a dematerialized platform. .

When the e-Visa is officially launched, travelers will be able to choose between a single or multiple entry visa for tourism, business, family or transit. They will need to bring their copy of passport, a photo ID, proof of accommodation, proof of vaccination against yellow fever and travel insurance to complete their application.

Today, to travel to Burkina Faso, all travelers must certify that they have a valid visa issued by Burkinabe diplomatic representations or by embassies that have concluded an agreement with Burkina Faso. For a higher price, it is also possible to apply for a visa at the border, provided you are a citizen of an eligible country.

More and more African countries have understood the interest of the electronic visa, whether for travelers or for local administrative services. There are, for example, Kenya, Tanzania and Egypt.
