Fire in Lamastre in Ardèche: 22 hectares burned

Ardèche firefighters have been facing a new fire since Saturday noon. This time in the town of Lamastre, in an “extremely” wooded area, on the edge of the village of Nozières. The alert was given around 11 a.m.

3:30 p.m.: The 600 holidaymakers who had been evacuated as a precaution returned to the Retourtour campsite. According to the mayor of Lamastre, Jean-Paul Vallon, the risk is ruled out for the town. The fire is contained on the Lamastre side. On the other hand, the fire continues to advance towards the neighboring village of Nozières.

2 p.m.: Six hectares of vegetation have already burned, a Dash aircraft intervened with retardant. Three canadairs arrived as reinforcements for water drops. On the ground, a hundred Ardèche firefighters are mobilized.

12:30 p.m.: According to Jean-Paul Vallon, mayor of Lamastre, the decision to evacuate the Retourtour campsite is confirmed: 600 holidaymakers are currently going to the city center from the community. In addition, two houses are said to be under protection. Six fire stations are mobilized without aerial means for the moment. Still no damage report. The RD 236 between Lamastre and Nozières is cut off to traffic.

12 p.m.: According to the mayor of Lamastre, Jean-Paul Vallon, the fire would have caught on the edge of the road, on departmental 236. No house would be threatened in the immediate future. There has been, for the time being, no evacuation but the question arises, as a precautionary measure for the Retourtour campsite. The municipality says it is ready to welcome all the people who would be evacuated.
