March for climate justice in Quebec

More than 130,000 students and 14,000 workers are on strike today to take part in this mobilization which is to take place in several cities in Quebec.

The young people behind this march join the movement Fridays for Future, calling for a global strike for climate justice. Environmental activist Greta Thunberg is at the origin of this protest movement which was born in Sweden in 2018.

Striking students have caused the lifting of classes at the Lévis campus of the University of Quebec at Rimouski (UQAR).

The demonstrators must meet at the Parc des Braves, in the Montcalm district, around 1 p.m., before starting a march in the streets of Quebec.

Lack of seriousness

A few days before the poll in Quebec, several activists say they are upset at the lack of seriousness that the candidates give to issues related to the environment, according to Julien Perron, spokesperson for the Student Coalition for an Environmental and Social Shift (CEVES).

What disappointed me the most was the absence of well-defined measures in their speecheshe says at the microphone of the show First hour, moderated by Alex Boissonneault.

The debate of the main party leaders, broadcast on Radio-Canada on Thursday, did not change the situation according to him.

The Coalition calls for a complete exit from fossil fuels by 2030, as well as the taxation of wealth for reinvestment in public services and social programs.
