👋🇫🇷🇪🇦 We are launching Horizon Worlds in France and Spain today! I can’t wait to see people explore and build immersive worlds, and bring that to more countries soon.

The opportunity to discover Meta Horizon Worlds, the latest social virtual reality product from Meta. In a few words: creators, enthusiasts and users of virtual reality will be able to come together to collaborate and participate in shared experiences.

What is Horizon Worlds?

Meta Horizon Worlds is a social virtual reality app which allows users to explore virtual worlds. In addition to navigable VR spaces, this service has ready-to-use VR building components such as code blocks, sounds, and animation effects to help content creators. At first glance, Horizon Worlds looks like a competitor to PlayStation VR’s Dreams, Roblox, and Second Life. It is a center for games and content, associated with the social network concept of Facebook.

Facebook first launched Horizons in August 2020 as an invite-only beta platform. The principle was the same: users could take advantage of a set of pre-built creation tools to develop the experiences they wanted in VR. Since then, the Horizon suite of apps has expanded to encompass other platforms such as Horizon Venues for viewers and Horizon Workrooms for collaboration. Horizon’s original premise of providing a VR platform for creating virtual experiences is now continued by Horizon Worlds. Besides being a creation platform, Horizon Worlds is also a shared space for multiplayer games, where users can play games created by others.

This application, which is in a way what comes closest to the definition of the metaverse according to Mark Zuckerberg, consists of a gigantic virtual world in which different people coexist who can participate in different activities, just by going from one place to another.

Horizon Worlds is for the moment exclusive to virtual reality but, eventually, should appear elsewhere (on the web, on smartphones, etc.). Let’s see it as a kind of sims life-size, with real people.

What to know before playing

Whether you are for or against the metaverse, Horizon Worlds is nonetheless an experience to live. It is a virtual world in which several universes co-exist, some created by Meta and others by external creators.
